How to choose a catcher's mitt
Catcher's mitts are measured around, not along. Start with size, pocket depth, break-in and control.

Quick answer
Choose a catcher's mitt by sport, age, hand control, pocket preference and throwing hand. Circumference gives you a starting number, but the right mitt is one the catcher can present, close and transfer from consistently.
Size by age and level
| Level | Typical circumference |
|---|---|
| Ages 6–9 | 29.5" – 31" |
| Ages 10–12 | 31" – 32.5" |
| High school | 32.5" – 34" |
| College / adult | 33" – 34.5" |
| Fastpitch softball | 32.5" – 34.5" |
Compare the closure
Mitts can differ in how the face, web and hinge work together. Compare them with the correct game ball and notice where the ball settles, how naturally the mitt closes and whether the catcher can repeat the same receiving position.
What actually matters day to day
- Palm feel: make sure the catcher is comfortable receiving the speed and ball used at their level.
- Break-in: the mitt should open, present and close along a repeatable path before game use.
- Weight: the catcher should be able to hold and reposition the mitt without losing control.
- Wrist fit: the opening should feel secure without restricting normal hand movement.
Ready to play vs built for you
If the athlete needs a mitt this season, confirm the product’s current availability and processing details before ordering. If they want the pattern, colors and padding chosen for them, explore the custom build and its current production window.
