Sizing
Softball glove size guide
Softball gloves run larger than baseball gloves at the same position because the ball is bigger. Here's the size to start with, by position and age.

A 12" softball is roughly an inch bigger across than a baseball, so a softball glove needs a deeper, wider pocket to hold it. Expect to size up about half an inch to an inch from the baseball equivalent at the same position.
Fastpitch softball size by position
| Position | Typical size |
|---|---|
| Middle infield (2B / SS) | 11.5" – 12" |
| Third base | 12" – 12.5" |
| Pitcher | 11.75" – 12.5" |
| Outfield | 12.5" – 13.5" |
| First base mitt | 12.5" – 13" |
| Catcher's mitt | 32.5" – 34.5" circumference |
| Utility | 12" – 12.5" |
Slowpitch players often go longer again — 13"–14" in the outfield is common.
Softball sizing by age
| Age | Typical infield | Typical outfield |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 | 9.5" – 11" | 10.5" – 11.5" |
| 9–11 | 11" – 11.75" | 11.5" – 12.5" |
| 12–13 | 11.5" – 12" | 12" – 13" |
| 14+ | 11.75" – 12.5" | 12.5" – 13.5" |
Web choice matters more in softball
A bigger ball pushes through a thin web. Fastpitch infielders usually want a closed, basket or dual-post web so the ball settles into the pocket instead of punching through it. Outfielders still want an H-web or trapeze for depth.
